A Simple Homeschool Garden Booklet (Free Printable)
We have survived the time chage! As the days slowly grow longer and the soil begins to soften, many homeschool families start thinking about getting outside again (hello to spring in wisconsin!) Spring has a way of inviting us back into the rhythms of nature, we crave the sun on our faces and dirt on our hands!
This year, as I began planning our small garden, I realized how many little pieces there are to keep track of when you're new to gardening: planting times, soil, spacing, watering, harvesting, and more. With very little prior gardening experience, I found myself wanting a simple way to organize everything while also making the garden a meaningful part of our homeschool days.
So I created a small Homeschool Garden Booklet to help guide our season.
The idea is simple: a gentle companion that helps children (and parents!) slow down, observe, and participate in the life of the garden.
Inside the booklet you'll find a few simple pages that can be used throughout the growing season:
• A cover page for your family garden journal
• A seasonal garden rhythm page
• A garden layout drawing page
• Garden observation pages for noticing plants, weather, and insects
• A planting tracker for seeds and sprouts
• An end-of-season reflection page
Rather than being a formal curriculum, the booklet is meant to support a more natural rhythm of learning. Children can draw what they see growing, record their first sprouts, notice pollinators, and celebrate the harvests along the way.
Even a very small garden - a few containers, a raised bed, or a patch of soil, can become a rich learning space.
Gardening gently brings together many parts of learning:
• science through observing plant growth
• patience through waiting for seeds to sprout
• responsibility through watering and care
• gratitude when food is harvested and shared
If you are new to gardening like I am, I hope this booklet makes the process feel a little more approachable and joyful. A garden doesn’t need to be large or perfect to become a meaningful part of family life.
You can download and print the Homeschool Garden Booklet below and use it in whatever way fits your home best.
May your garden bring many moments of discovery this season.
