Lawn Trimming Busy Work For Lazy Summer Days - Fine Motor Skills Activity 🐞

Hello summer! If you're like me I day dream all winter long about the summer activities and quality time my family will share together. But as our summer library programs come to a close, holidays, birthdays, camping and fishing trips come and go we have hit a bit of a slump in our seemly constant fun activity. I am grateful! We have reached that sweet spot in our summer to slow down, tend our little garden, play, relax and most importantly be bored!!

My sons are currently obsessed with watching my husband mow our yard and ask us both daily when its time again so I thought I'd create a quick, low-prep activity that kept my boys happily busy on those afternoons where its just a little too hot.

You'll need:

2 sheets of white printer paper (glued together)

3 sheets of green paper, cut in half

Glue

Scissors

Crayons or markers

How to make it:

Glue the two white sheets together to make one long page.

Draw flower stems and hide little bugs, worms, frogs, flowers, or other tiny creatures around the page.

Cut the green paper in half, then snip fringe into each piece to make "grass."

Glue the grass strips across the bottom of the page, overlapping them so the creatures are hidden.

Hand your child a pair of scissors and invite them to be the lawn trimmer! As they trim the grass, they'll discover all the little critters hiding underneath.

A fun way to practice scissor skills, strengthen little hands, and add a bit of surprise to a simple craft!

Happy summer!

Chloe
